Dr. King's DREAM was often misunderstood. 

The foundation of his campaign was centered around non-violent direct action. However, his more radical thoughts on education, equality, and equity ultimately led to him being targeted by the U.S. government. King was assassinated for becoming a beacon of hope- a threat to the status quo that protects White America at the expense of Black struggle. 

Dr King's methods of direct action- boycotts and peaceful marches- empowered Black Americans and fueled the Civil Rights Movement. The success of these boycotts and marches give Black Americans HOPE that it is possible to change the system.
